Meet Sheffield’s ‘Snakebite Korfball Club’!!
Our club has ex-Sheffield Hallam korfball players, ex-Sheffield Uni players, brand new never-played-sport-before-players, school students, university staff. You name it, we’ve probably got it! At Snakebite you can be as involved with the club as you like, from being a member of the committee and organising matches and socials, to just turning up once a week for training/matches.

Most stupid moment in korfball career: My best moment and, simultaneously most stupid moment, was when I managed to score from the back corner of the court when carelessly throwing the ball somewhere into the vicinity of the court: and it actually ended up in the net! Sadly it was defended but it should’ve been allowed just out of pure skill, or at least for its comedy genius!
Interesting fact: Whilst travelling in South America I managed to get stranded for 4 hours on a floating reed island in Bolivia with the native Uros people who couldn’t speak a word of English. I managed to communicate with them using the little Spanish I knew, was sung to (“My Heart Will Go On” (Spanish version of course!), and was left in charge of a stall (or equivalent) selling tit-tat to tourists!!

Interesting fact: In 490 BCE, Pheidippides, a Greek soldier, ran from Marathon to Athens (about 25 miles) to inform the Athenians the outcome of the battle with invading Persians. The distance was filled with hills and other obstacles; thus Pheidippides arrived in Athens exhausted and with bleeding feet. After telling the townspeople of the Greeks\' success in the battle, Pheidippides fell to the ground dead. In 1896, at the first modern Olympic Games, held a race of approximately the same length in commemoration of Pheidippides.

Most stupid moment in korfball career: Plenty of material here already. Getting lost/stuck in traffic on my way to King Egberts and turning up 25 minutes late, thereby missing the start of the match. Oh, and falling over twice in the first five minutes of the aforementioned firsts debut, to the delight of my immediate opponent and the horror of my team-mates (will they ever pick me again?)
Interesting fact: About me? I won a prize at school for excellence in German, picked a German dictionary as the prize and dropped the subject altogether a few months later.
